Sculpey Maractus by ChloeMcGhoe Sculpey Maractus by ChloeMcGhoe
Maractus is handmade from Super Sculpey Firm over a wire and foil armature, attached to a wooden base, hand painted with acrylic paints and sealed for protection with a satin glaze.  The base has real desert sand and plastic plants attached.

So this is one of the tougher Pokemon I have attempted in a long time, and think it came out pretty well!  Maractus is one of those Pokemon that doesn't get much attention but I think they're really cute :)  I tried to take photos of the different angles to show what he looks like from each side - let me know if you like this.

Just an FYI if you don't know much about Pokemon - he's supposed to be leaning to one side ;)

Wow, pretty well done! Thanks for the photos of the different angles!

I have one question about super sculpey too, how do you make so smooth? I Mean I don't know how to join different parts and look that they're a single part!

Thanks so much, I think I'll be doing more shots of different angles in the future :)

How do you make your sculptures?  Do you use a wire armature?  Because I have found that since I started sculpting with armatures it is a lot easier to have parts joined together seamlessly.  Also, I use sand paper to smooth out the clay after it is baked and thin layers of paint, otherwise it can look kind of globby.  I hope that helped, if you need more info let me know!

You're very welcome!!! :D

Oh... no, my figurines don't have this!! :( I don't know how to make properly the armature! and I don't have any tools for any of my figurines!

You think that little figurines like charms need it too, or only big ones? :)

Thanks a Lot!! But I never know how to smooth my figurines without scratch them!

Can you make a photo of your tools? Or say me what do you use? Thank you Chloe!!! :huggle: !!

No problem!

I would suggest checking this out for more info on armatures--> www.deviantart.com/art/Tutoria…

I use the wire armatures for larger projects, especially if you want them to stand up, and I will usually just use tin foil to bulk out smaller projects.  It helps to keep it light and uses less clay.

To avoid scratching your figures use a lighter sandpaper, not one that is too rough, otherwise it will leave some scratches on the surface.

Right now I am using tools that I purchased at my local crafts store, they aren't too fancy, this is the same set: www.ebay.com/itm/11-PCS-Potter…

I also recently bought some rubber-tipped tools and so far they work great!

Hope this helps, let me know if you have any more questions!

I love maractus, he really doesn't get enough love! The base really looks great too.

I think Maractus is super cute, it's too bad he's such a crappy Pokémon.  My favourite thing about Maractus is that he lives in a desert with a constant sandstorm that does damage to him Facepalm

you'd think he would get sand veil as a secret ability, or overcoat. anything to make that make sense!
